The development of «Schakhter» during the independent stage is connected with coach Ivan Schekin who became head coach of the «miners» in 1997 after a long spell with «Dinamo» Minsk. He started building a new team with a perspective of reaching heights. Unfortunatelly in 2000 Ivan tragically passed away and the plan was not fulfilled… Nikolai Kostiukevich steped in, while starting from the 2002 season the «yellow-blacks» were led by Yuri Vergeichik. It turned out to be a longstanding relationship. With Vergeichik as head coach of «Shakhter» won the medals of the championship several times including the gold prize in 2005. Later on Yuri took the position of Director at the club. It can be seen from the statistical layouts that «Shakhter» holds its mark and takes prizes every season.
